Abecedarius | 26 + 1 Recent Works by Colin Boyd + Michael Oatman
October 31 – December 23, 2014
Reception: Friday, October 31, 5-9PM

Recipients of the First Annual Arts Center Emerging and Established Artist Awards, Colin Boyd and Michael Oatman have teamed up to present an exhibition and book that looks at the natural world and the roles humans have in misshaping it.

Using the literary format of the Abecedarius (e.g., “A is for Apple”, “B is for Bear”, “C is for Crops Patented by Monsanto”, etc.), the two artists will turn the gallery into a walk-able cautionary tale – with a few nervous laughs for good measure.

Opening on Halloween – a holiday that honors monsters – Abecedarius will usher viewers into historical realms of extinction, scientific mishap and mythology; Abecedarius will feature encounters with ideas unknown, undercooked and just plain stupid; and finally Abecedarius will import/export the violence and majesty of worlds labeled “out there”, “in here” and “the future”.
